After up to 15 tons of red-hot iron leaked in a Krefeld foundry, investigators have determined the cause of the accident. According to the current state of knowledge, liquid iron leaked from a leaky ladle and triggered the fire, the Düsseldorf district government announced on Wednesday. The occupational safety of the district government is on site and in exchange with emergency services and investigators.

On Tuesday evening, 10 to 15 tons of molten iron flowed next to the mold during casting. Due to the great heat, several objects were set on fire in the hall and there was a lot of smoke. Over 50 firefighters were on duty. Initially, the fire brigade spoke of liquid steel, the information was specified by the district government and the company.

After the hot metal ran out, two employees were able to escape from overhead cranes onto the roof of the company. They were brought to safety by the fire department and were taken to the hospital. A total of nine people were injured, including two firefighters who suffered minor injuries. A good four hours after the alarm was raised, the fire brigade reported that the mission had ended. According to the company, operations were back on Wednesday.
