Finland signs contract to buy 64 F-35 fighter jets

Finland has signed an agreement for the purchase of 64 US F-35A fifth-generation multirole fighters. on the site Ministry of Defense of Finland on Friday, February 11.

Defense Minister Antti Kaikkonen signed an industrial cooperation agreement in Helsinki. The agreement was signed with fighter aircraft manufacturer Lockheed Martin and engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney, part of the Raytheon Technologies group, the ministry said.

The purchase contracts cover the delivery to Finland of 64 F-35 fighters in 2025-2030, engines and maintenance equipment, spare parts, training equipment and services necessary for operation and maintenance.

It is noted that Finland will be involved in the aircraft production process, which will create about 4,500 new jobs in the country, another 1,500 people will be attracted indirectly.

In December 2021, it became known that the government of Finland decided to purchase F-35A fighters. Then it was reported that the amount of the transaction will be about 10 billion euros.

Finland currently has 62 F/A-18 Hornet fighters at its disposal, which expire in 2030. They will be phased out from 2025.
