Finland offers to host Biden and Putin meeting / Article / LSM.lv

Finnish President Sauli Nīniste has offered to hold a possible meeting between US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Finland has previously been a mediator in negotiations between the two great powers, and it was there that Biden’s predecessor Donald Trump met with Putin.

Finland has informed both Moscow and Washington of its readiness to host Biden and Putin talks.

It has already been said that both politicians could meet in neutral territory. Biden had also spoken about this in a recent telephone conversation with Putin.

However, despite the desire to speak in person, tensions are growing between the two countries. Baidens is announced new sanctions against Russia, punishing it for interfering in the electoral process and other hostile acts. They targeted 32 individuals and legal entities, and expelled ten Russian diplomats, half of whom were employees of the Russian secret services.

“I have approved a number of steps, including the expulsion of several Russian officials as a result of their actions. I have also signed an order authorizing new measures, including sanctions, to address certain harmful actions taken by Russia against US interests, “Biden said.

“I made it clear to President Putin that we could have gone further, but I chose not to do so and to act proportionately.”

Meanwhile, the Russian Foreign Ministry has announced that a response to the sanctions will be “inevitable” and has summoned US Ambassador to Moscow John Salivan to talks.
