Finland called Russian nuclear rhetoric the main reason for joining NATO

The minister said Moscow’s nuclear threats had left Finland, which shares some 1,300 kilometers of border with Russia, thinking about how to respond and where to get support in case of such rhetoric.

According to Haavisto, these concerns were one of the reasons that prompted Finland to make a historic change in its security policy and apply to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

The foreign minister also said the recent attacks on Ukraine’s electricity infrastructure were “very brutal” and deprived ordinary people of functioning heating, lighting and sewage systems, indicating that Russia is waging a war on all-out against civilians in Ukraine.

The country’s top diplomat also reiterated the importance of nuclear safety during the war and said that a major accident at the Russian-controlled Zaporozhye nuclear power plant would be “one of the worst scenarios that could happen”.

We will remind earlier this was stated by Prime Minister of Finland Sanna Marin Europe without US help ‘not strong enough’. Therefore, after the war in Ukraine, Europe needs to strengthen its defense potential.
