Find out how the hybrid system works on Kijang Innova Zenix

Jakarta

Toyota has just launched a hybrid car made in Indonesia, the Toyota Kijang Innova Zenix Hybrid. Equipped with hybrid technology, the Toyota Kijang Innova Zenix is more fuel efficient and more environmentally friendly.

The Toyota Kijang Innova Zenix Hybrid EV is claimed to optimize power generation control for internal combustion engines and electric motors.

The Innova Zenix Hybrid EV is equipped with a TNGA 2,000 cc engine coded M20A-FXS 1,987 cc, Dual VVT-i four-cylinder engine with a power of 152 HP at 6,000 rpm with a maximum torque of 187.3 Nm at 4,400-5,200 rpm min. The petrol engine is coupled to an electric motor with an output of 113 HP with a maximum torque of 205.9 Nm. As a result, the cooperation of the petrol engine and the electric motor can generate a combined output of up to 186 HP.

The Toyota Kijang Innova Zenix Hybrid EV is equipped with a Ni-MH hybrid battery which is packed in a compact package and stored under the two front seats without reducing the space in the cabin.

Quoting Toyota Indonesia’s social media upload, the petrol engine and electric motor in the Toyota Kijang Innova Zenix hybrid system complement each other. This is to achieve the required fuel efficiency or horsepower.

First when starting, the electric motor runs while driving. Furthermore, during normal driving, the petrol engine and electric motor automatically operate alternately according to the driver’s needs. The petrol engine can recharge the battery if needed.

Thus, when accelerating, the petrol engine and electric motor work together automatically during acceleration. Then, when braking, the battery will automatically be replenished with regenerative braking.

The Toyota Kijang Innova Zenix is equipped with a K120 coded CVT transmission. This transmission combines a steel belt and gear drive which can expand the range of gear ratios. A 10-speed sequential Shiftmatic mode is adopted to allow gear changes like a manual transmission. There is also an uphill/downhill shift control for passing mountain trails. Especially for the hybrid type, EV driving modes are added in addition to Eco, Normal and Power.
