The time to make room under the TV is fast approaching – photos of Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S in the living room of journalists has begun to appear online, and there is no shortage of things to do soon.
Although the Xbox Series S appears to be relatively compact compared to the Xbox One X, with a larger area on the “front” (meaning it will not steal too much space under the TV), the big brother, the Xbox Series X , a completely different story. The new console measures 15.1 cm x 15.1 cm x 30.1 cm, and is a bit of a monster – we are talking at least twice as big as many other consoles.
GameSpot was one of the inks that was sent a non-functional exhibition model (for image use), and therefore chose to put the new console next to a PS4 Pro, in Nintendo Switch and a Xbox One X.
The results are, well, on the verge of comic. See for yourself in the photos GameSpot journalist Michael Higham posted on Twitter:
Got my hands on the Xbox Series S and Series X…prototypes! Sent over by MicrosoftThese designs are SLICK, especially the Series S!Did some size comparisons w/ current gen, saw how they fit in my broke boy Ikea setup. So, honestly. Comments are almost superfluous. Note, however, that one must be careful about how to place the fan outlet, as Higham mentions.
yup, still a lil thick but you also gotta make sure there’s room on the right side (not like in this photo lol) of it since thats where the fan is pic.twitter.com/m9RnrLpYpmSeptember 10, 2020
How much space do you really need?
Seeing today’s consoles next to the new consoles can help a lot when we soon have to figure out where to place the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
For example, some of the pictures show that the Xbox Series S is about the same size as the PS4 Pro. The PS4 Pro is only slightly higher, and if you compare the two new Xbox consoles, the Series S is 60% smaller than the Xbox Series X, according to Microsoft.
The most rewarding comparison in the pictures of the Xbox Series X is when it is set up next to the Nintendo Switch. Here it looks like Microsoft’s new console is about as wide as the Nintendo console (if the Series X is laid on the side.) Of course, the Series X is much thicker than the Nintendo Switch, and has the grille with the fan on top that you have to take into account ( quite literally in many cases.)
Good luck getting a place on the shelves you already have, at least, you probably need a little pep before you start.
