AZ trainer Arne Slot is enthusiastic about Marco Bizot after the victory of his team at Ajax (0-2). The goalkeeper suffered a severe blow earlier this week with the death of his father.
“That makes today’s performance incredibly handsome,” Slot Bizot complimented on Sunday FOX Sports. “Because he was unable to train with the group yesterday, nor did he travel to the hotel, because yesterday was the funeral.”
“He is a member of the team this morning and if you can play such a match under such difficult circumstances, it will be incredibly clever.”
Bizot made a good save on a header from Dusan Tadic and kept his goal clean. After the victory over Ajax the keeper of AZ was visibly emotional.
Slot also praised the rest of his team, which took the lead after four minutes by a goal from Myron Boadu. Oussama Idrissi determined the final score fifteen minutes before the end of the game, after he saw another goal being rejected.
“I think it is a deserved win, especially when you look at the number of opportunities that we have created and the game that we have shown,” the coach analyzed. “We could have decided in the first half. We were very calm at the ball and were able to play football under the pressure of Ajax.”
“Fanatic defense against Ajax is rewarded”
There was little to deny from the victory of AZ, which was particularly strong in defense. The visitors took full advantage of the space Ajax gave away, something Slot had already pointed out to his team before the match.
“I said beforehand that fanatic defense against Ajax is rewarded, because you get a lot of room when you take the ball. We were able to show our good build-up game from before the winter break and convert that into a lot of opportunities.”
With the victory of AZ, the tension in the title fight is completely back again. The Alkmaarders are equal to Ajax in points, although the Amsterdam team still leads thanks to a better goal difference. Slot realizes that there are still ten rounds to play.
“We are in the lead again, but the road is still long. Next week against ADO will be a completely different game, but the great thing is that we can say that our gems have played a good game again,” he concluded.
