Like the previous week at the French U23 championships, Eure-et-Loir drew a blank this weekend at the “France” cadets-juniors in Mulhouse. The Eurelian delegation did not however go very far from bringing back one or two medals from the Haut-Rhin, but it finally left almost empty-handed, with four finalist places as a consolation prize.
The first had been signed by Brieuc de Kersabiec (Aclam), Friday evening, in the 3,000m junior steeplechase (7th), and the other three returned this Sunday to Evan Pringuet (Aclam), 4th in the junior height, Bassirou Gueye ( Dreux), 4th in the cadet triple jump, and Célestin Noblet, 8th in the cadet pole vault.
Close to a bar
Bronze medalist last winter indoors, Gueye missed the double by just six inches. In a good level competition, which saw five of the first seven improve their personal best, Alain Guenzi’s protege still responded, by achieving 14.19 m, very close to his record (14.25 m) . But he had to bow to the Toulousain Théo Lechartier (14.25 m), himself preceded by Youn Le Rest (Brest, 14.70 m) and the untouchable Thomas Martinez (Martigues, 15.80 m).
A little earlier in the day, Bassirou Gueye had also lined up in the final of the height, but in a rather uncomfortable position, since the triple competition started a good hour later. After clearing a bar at 1.84m on the first try, he finally failed three times at 1.92m…
The flight of Evan Pringuet (Aclam), in the running for height, at the French junior championships, in Mulhouse
In the junior competition, Evan Pringuet went much higher, and as he was aiming for, the Courvillois from Aclam got involved in the fight for the medal. Crossing 2.01m on his first try, he even took a good option, but then failed three times at 2.04m, a bar that Enzo Muscedere (Arpajon), bronze medalist, finally cleared at his last try… Gold went to Moustafa Diane (Villejuif, 2.07 m) ahead of William Almayrac (Metz, 2.07 m).
Even if he remained below his record, established the previous week with 2.06 m, Evan Pringuet still largely succeeded in his championships, as did Célestin Noblet. The first-year cadet from OC Châteaudun-Bonneval ranked 8th in the pole vault, with a 4.25m bar cleared on the first try.
