Final Fantasy 7 Remake Producer explains why the game is in episodes Final Fantasy VII Remake

The Director of Final Fantasy 7 and producer of the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Yoshinori Kitase, explains why Square Enix chose to split the release of the project in parts and not in one big remake. A new interview also reveals that there is a whole new floor in the Shinra building.

On the Square Enix blog said Director and producer of the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Yoshinori Kitase, that replicating everything in the best quality from the original game required a format of episodes. Only then could that be done without cutting gameplay and that allows him to bring in new elements.

“To release the whole game as one release, we couldn’t have gone for the best visual quality, nor would we have to wipe out parts of the original,” he said. “Basically, to do it in one release the game would be kind of a digested version of the original story and we thought the fans wouldn’t appreciate it.”

The first release in the remake, which will be released in April, is with the Midgar part of the game. According to Kitase’s statements, it should contain everything from the original but rendered with better technology, plus new zones to explore.

“There were many parts between sections in Midgar that were implied but we never got to see,” Kitase said. “That was something we wanted to tackle in the remake, fill in all those gaps, show how the city districts connect and make it a continuous experience.”

One of those areas in the remake is a new floor in the Shinra Building, which, according to co-Director Naoki Hamaguchi, “adds a climax that wasn’t in the original.”

Interestingly enough, RED XIII will have to explore that floor, Square Enix already confirmed that that character is not playable in this first game. “The trick to exploring this floor is to use the unique powers of RED XIII to overcome the obstacles,” said Hamaguchi. “To let the players experience these heroic deeds is something our fans will appreciate.”

That extra content also includes ‘endgame content’, but Hamaguchi didn’t reveal anything in the interview yet. It could mean there are optional bosses to fight, which is the case in most Final Fantasy games.
