Filip strains Babiš. He did not promise budget support or a state of emergency

Filip was not forced to change his position by the Minister of Defense Lubomír Metnar (for YES) and the Chief of the General Staff Aleš Opata, who took part in the meeting and defended the budget of the Ministry of Defense in the amount of over 85 billion crowns.

Filip will discuss the draft budget with President Miloš Zeman on Tuesday afternoon. The Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the CSSD, Jan Hamáček, will also go to talks with the President. On Friday, the Minister of Finance Alena Schillerová (for YES) will try to convince the Communists, who will arrive at the meeting of their executive committee.

The minority cabinet YES and the CSSD does not yet have support for the budget with a planned deficit of 320 billion crowns. In addition, the budget does not take into account the effects of the tax package, which would increase the deficit by another tens of billions of crowns.

Already on Wednesday, deputies should decide on the government’s request to extend the state of emergency for another 30 days. It is valid from October 5, until December 12.

The government needs support from the opposition to prolong the emergency, which is linked to almost all measures against the coronavirus epidemic.

After the meeting, Filip stated that he could not yet say how the Communists would vote on the cabinet proposal. The head of the party said that he did not find the reasons for prolonging the state of emergency completely significant.

“I wanted to know the reasons for prolonging the state of emergency and I do not find them absolutely essential,” said Filip

At the same time, it is already clear that the STAN movement will not support the government’s proposal. The pirates announced that they were willing to consider extending it in a matter of days. The government cannot expect support from other opposition parties either.
