Marcello Lippi, the former coach of Italy and Juventus, spends his quarantine time watching Italy’s matches at the 2006 World Cup, as well as the final matches he played as coach, and was stunned by Zidane in the World Cup final.
Lippi talked about the Italian “Radio 1”, saying: “I watch Italy’s matches in the 2006 World Cup, and the finals that I have played are few, there are some that I was not fortunate with, but just being in a final is a big step in your career.”
The former Juventus coach continued, “The loss that left a bitter taste in my throat, is the Champions League final and the penalty shootout defeat against Milan in 2003 in Manchester.”
He also talked about Zidane’s dismissal in the World Cup final after the butting of Materazzi, “I was astonished by the behavior of Zidane, I trained him in Juventus, an unusual, smart and humble person.”
“I watched the World Cup final 20 times and every time it becomes emotional, I chose Grosso because he specializes in recording penalty kicks and I reminded him that whoever got the penalty kick against Australia scored in the net of Germany.”
“I told Grosso, you are the man of the last moments,” he said. “He will take the fifth kick and he doesn’t believe what I said.”
Libby left the China team training at the end of last November, after the national team fell in the 2022 World Cup and 2023 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.
