FilGoal | News | A lie that led Maxi Rodriguez to Liverpool

Argentine Maxi Rodriguez spent two and a half seasons with Liverpool, revealing how he lied to join the Reds.

The 39-year-old Maxi joined Liverpool from 2010 to 2012.

“I was very happy at Atlético Madrid because I was the captain and I knew the city but I was crazy about English football,” Maxi said in a live broadcast with his Argentine colleague Juan Soren via Instagram.

“Rafael Benitez told me that it is very important for everyone to speak English in the dressing room, and he asked me about my proficiency in the language and I said yes, it seems easy.”

He added, “I did not want the deal to collapse, and upon my arrival in England to hold the press conference, Benitez moved and then followed and I said to him, Rafa, I have to admit that I do not speak all that I can say hello.”

“I didn’t want the deal to fail,” Rafa replied, “You rascal, then we laughed and said to me, get ready to learn.”

Maxi remained in the Reds shirt until July 2012, scored 15 goals, and returned to Argentina from the Newell’s Old Boys Argentine Gate.
