An example of resistance and reinvention. This is how the Minister of Culture, Alejandro Neyra, to the work carried out by the Peruvian Book Chamber (CPL) to carry out this present Lima International Book Fair (FIL Lima 2020) than starts today its first virtual edition, due to the pandemic.
Adversity has not subdued writers, publishers, booksellers, and readers who They have until September 6 to meet again. Although it will not be physically in the traditional Parque de los Próceres, it will be through a screen (be it the cell phone or the laptop) to enjoy the literary encounter.
In keeping with the times, the inauguration of the FIL Lima 2020 it occurred virtually with a table headed by Neyra (President Martín Vizcarra could not be present); the mayor of Lima, Jorge Muñoz, mayor of Lima; Wilfredo Del Pozo, president of the CPL; the writer Karina Pacheco as well as the poet Ana Varela Tafur, among others.
The guests, in general, highlighted the importance of continuing with the literary meeting and making it reach all Peruvians, since there is no physical distance through the digital world.
“FIL Lima is an icon of the city“stressed the mayor of Lima.” It is a living institution, it never ceases to amaze us as a good book never ceases to surprise us“added Muñoz.
For her part, Patricia del Río, representative of the RPP Group, stressed that there will be no barriers for all Peruvians to access the talks with Fernando Savater, Claudia Piñeiro, Liniers or Megan Maxwell. The rooms with limited capacity are now online presentations which “make us feel like that person is speaking to us, not to a giant audience“.
LAW OF THE BOOK NOW
While Willy del Pozo, President of the CPL, stressed the value of the word as a vehicle for socialization during the pandemic, did not miss the opportunity to insist on the enactment of a new Law of the Book.
“We, the cultural book industry, intend to live up to what it means to be bearers of socialization. Of that new discourse that must be imposed on the book as a priority before all agendas. Therefore, I tell our authorities never like now the enactment of a new Book Law is more necessary. A law that allows us to project ourselves, in a long way, as a country in the transition to a reading society, “he said.
THE GUESTS
Avid readers will recognize more than one name among the guests at the FIL Lima 2020 who come from 13 countries, mostly from Latin America. Starting with the writer and philosopher Fernando Savater, author of the work “Ethics for Amador”. He is accompanied by the award-winning Mexican writer and journalist Juan Villoro; as well as the writer Eduardo Sacheri, author of “The question of their eyes” and “The night of Usina”; and the writer, playwright and television scriptwriter, Claudia Piñeiro.
We also find popular authors such as the writer of erotic literature Megan Maxwell; Elisabet Benavent whose “Valeria” saga was adapted by Netflix. They will also participate Blue Jeans, known for his youth sagas. These are just some of the guests.
CONCERTS AT HOME
Music will continue to be present at the 25th edition of the Lima International Book Fair. Among the artists who will animate the audience with virtual concerts are Damaris, the indie singer Micaela Salaverry, the artist Naysha Montes, who surprised by playing the charango at the opening of the 2019 Pan American Games and the singer Asháninka Yessica Sánchez, among others.
