Fifteen players from the Spanish national team have lost their faith in national team manager Jorge Vilda. They don’t want to train and play while Vilda is at the helm.
The players reportedly urged Luis Rubiales, president of the Spanish football federation RFEF, in an email about Vilda’s resignation. The RFEF is not satisfied with the action.
“It is not up to them to question and decide on the functioning of the national team coach and his staff. Actions of this type are detrimental to the values of football and sport”, reports the link.
“The national team needs players who are fully committed and proud to wear the Spain shirt. Players who have withdrawn their confidence can only return if they admit their mistake and ask for forgiveness.”
Spain experienced a disappointing European Championship in July. In the absence of injured champions Alèxia Putellas and Jennifer Hermoso, England lost in the quarter-finals. Sarina Wiegman’s team eventually won the title.
In the Spanish media it is suggested that Putellas is one of the initiators of the post. Although the World Football Player of the Year does not appear to be among the fifteen players who actually sent the message to RFEF.
