Fifteen Italian tourists were expelled from Mauritania after refusing to be quarantined until it was proven that they were not carriers of the new coronavirus (Covid-19).
According to the EFE news agency, the Italians arrived in Nouakchott on Saturday night and said they were unaware of the precautionary measures applied by the Mauritanian authorities, who put them in isolation at a hotel in the city with the ban on leaving it until further notice.
However, tourists left the hotel the next day to continue his journey to the north of the country.
Alerted immediately, the police set up checkpoints on the roads and the 15 tourists were intercepted a hundred kilometers north of the capital, on the road that leads to the Adrar region, one of the favorite tourist destinations for western tourists.
Then, between undergoing quarantine or returning to their country, Italian tourists chose to leave Mauritania.
So far, Mauritania has not reported any cases of the new coronavirus, but it does apply strict measures that include quarantining for fifteen days of all people from “at-risk countries” and border medical checkpoints.
The fear of contagion increased after confirmed cases in several neighboring countries of this African country, such as Senegal, Algeria and Morocco.
