Fewer and fewer new Tinderaars want to pay for unlimited swiping NOW

The number of Tinderaars who want to pay extra for extras such as unlimited swiping and Super Likes is decreasing, according to quarterly figures from parent company Match Group. In the last three months of last year, 200,000 paying customers were added, the smallest growth in a year.

The growth in the number of users who want to pay for the additional features of Tinder is likely to level off due to increased competition in the dating app market. In addition to Tinder, apps such as Bumble, Grindr and Happn are growing rapidly. Last summer, Facebook also introduced a dating service.

Despite the flattening growth, Tinder’s revenue for 2019 amounted to 1.2 billion dollars (1.09 billion euros). The dating app itself is free, but earns money with Tinder Gold and Tinder Plus subscription services. Subscribers to these services receive an ad-free app and extra functions.

Match Group also announced in the first quarter a turnover of between 545 million and 555 million dollars for Tinder. These amounts are lower than analysts had previously expected.

Investors were therefore not happy with the slowdown in growth and revenue expectations. The share price of Match Group fell by 7 percent on Wednesday around 6 p.m. to $ 77.19 per share.
