On the first evening of the dance festival Extrema Outdoor Extra in Houthalen-Helchteren, a fifty-year-old from the Netherlands died on Friday.

The man suddenly became unwell on the festival site and was taken by the emergency services in critical condition to the East Limburg hospital in Genk, where he died later in the evening. It is not yet clear what caused the man to die.
The Limburg public prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation, press magistrate Pieter Strauven confirms. “In any case, three public prosecutors are permanently present at the festival site. They will handle the file legally,” said Strauven.
Extrema Outdoor, at De Plas in Houthalen-Helchteren, is the largest festival in our country this year with almost 65,000 tickets that went out in presale.
