Fesfut offers almost half a million dollars to revive the Primera football, but teams do not accept it | News from El Salvador

The league did not accept part of the FIFA funds offered by Fesfut to set up the 2020-21 season, considering them insufficient.

The First Division would have at its disposal $ 493,000.00 of the covid-19 pandemic aid funds that the FIFA destined to the Salvadoran Soccer Federation (Fesfut), same that the directors of the Major League did not accept.

The reason, according to Samuel Gálvez, president of the First Division, is that the money is a support to sustain a single season, two short tournaments, and must be distributed among the 12 teams in the league.

Each team, then, would have $ 41,083 dollars to sustain themselves between tournaments Opening 2020 and Closing 2021, that is, $ 20,542.50 for each of the tournaments of the season.

However, Gálvez expresses that the teams’ greatest fear is that professional football can only be resumed behind closed doors, due to the spike in covid-19 infections that the country has experienced in recent days.

This would only delay the reopening of the sport in the country and make it difficult for the teams, financially dependent on box office income, to sustain themselves.

“Making numbers, as some teams consider, it is very difficult for these funds to reach. In the end, the problem is that the situation is getting difficult, they consider that access to the stadiums is going to be very difficult and at some point you have to think that you are going to play behind closed doors ”Gálvez told Radio YSKL, after the meeting between the presidents of the League, in which the president of the FesfutHugo Carrillo.

Gálvez assures that next week they will make a final decision on the future of the 2020-2021 season of the First Division, after making last contacts with sponsors to get the necessary funds for the tournaments.

“We would like to resolve this as quickly as possible, but one understands that the conditions are not in place. We are going to make one last effort, as some presidents asked, more with some sponsors to ask for more support. If not, the last word remains to determine it and conclude if there is going to be football”.

Hours earlier, the president of the National Institute of Sports (Indes), Yamil Bukele, questioned the viability that football can be played again with spectators in September, as planned in the schedule for the reopening of sport presented by the Institute last year. June 16.

“I do not see it viable for sport to return to the public in September if a drastic measure is not taken at the moment (regarding the pandemic,” Bukele analyzed yesterday on the “Güiri Güiri Al Aire” program.

Under this plan, sports could resume with spectators from a fourth phase that would start, in principle, on August 6.
