Fertilizers: the Direcagro company has signed a contract for the purchase of urea, Midagri announces

The Minister of Agricultural Development and Irrigation, Jenny Ocampo, sanctioned the fourth process for the arrival of urea in the country due to the fact that the purchase order was signed with the company Direcagro this Friday. As reported, after the four declared winners filed defaults, the Paraguayan firm managed to meet the basics.

“We can say that we already have the contract on the way and, as foreseen by the conditions, within 40 days the urea would be here in the country. Once the contract comes into effect, what we have to guarantee now is that on the 40th it is in the port of Callao and we can do the distribution, which is an issue we are also working on,” he said.

“In 40 days (the urea should arrive), as promised by the company Direcagro, which is the company with which the purchase order was signed. with the last requirement, by the end of the year we would have this very important input,” he added.

Similarly, Minister Ocampo highlighted the support of several organizations for the distribution of fertilizers to allow for greater impact. Furthermore, he said that further outlets are being seen “understanding that urea is one of the fertilizers, but also that this world crisis will continue, so there is hard work.”

The owner of the Midagrie She also mentioned that her industry has a bill in Congress aiming for a “much more comprehensive” view of the fertilization process. In this regard, he asked for speed in Parliament to avoid repeating delays in this type of procedure, thus favoring “the development of agriculture”.

Strategies for the future to avoid problems

The minister has already indicated that they are working on “a comprehensive strategy” to prevent future supply problems fertilizers to the peasants of the country. This, he said, is to adopt the necessary measures to guarantee the food security of the population.

In addition, it estimated that after the completion of the nitrogen fertilizer purchase process, the shipment of urea will arrive in ports in December from the supplier company.

As regards the registration of agricultural producers who will benefit from urea, Ocampo noted that the registration process for farmers in the Register of Agricultural Producers (PPA) “fast forward” He stressed that, to date, there are already more than 990,000 members nationwide and it is expected to reach one million producers in the coming days.

The Midagrie pointed out that the PPA seeks to “benefit more than 2,200,000 people engaged in agricultural production”, of which 97% are producers engaged in family farming.

“The PPA will provide beneficiaries with various services (…) bonuses (i will bring it), credits, urea delivery, training, access to digital markets, certified seeds, vaccination kits, as well as information for their products, among others,” the ministry said.

Furthermore, with said register we would try to “have a real and geo-referenced register of producers in the field, which would allow us to face the national agricultural problem with greater knowledge, outline policies and propose solutions to their different needs”.
