“Ferrari Struggles with Lack of Speed in Miami Grand Prix”

Ferrari’s best result in Miami was Carlos Sainz’s fifth. His teammate Charles Leclerc finished seventh. The Scuderia admit that they have not yet been able to solve the problem with the lack of speed on the race track.

Carlos Sainz (5th): “I believe we are in the middle of a learning process. The information collected this weekend will greatly help us in this. We were very fast in qualifying, and in the race on Medium tires I attacked Fernando Alonso, tried to cut, but in the next section on Hard I lost almost twenty seconds.

We are much faster on Medium and we need to understand why. Right now I have no understanding. Our car behaves very unstable, and for this race we paid the price. Before the start, we had a lot of unknowns, and, as I said, we have a lot to learn.

Obviously, these are not the positions the team wants to be in, so it is important to take the next steps in the right direction. We will continue to try different solutions – that’s all I can say.”

Charles Leclerc (7th): “I had problems throughout the race. A very similar picture to the one at the beginning of the year – we are competitive in qualifying, but serious problems begin in the race.

Our car has a very narrow operating range, and as soon as you go a little beyond this, serious problems begin with the balance, which changes from turn to turn. There can be severe understeer in one corner, and it turns into severe oversteer in the next.

All this does not allow you to feel confident in the car. Plus, in the race, the car hit the bottom of the track hard, for which I have no explanation – I need to check the car. We lack stability, but we will try to improve.

We still have a lot of work to do. We need to find a solution to the problems with the car in racing mode.

Mercedes are fast, Aston Martins are very fast in the race, Alpines look good in the long run too. I have nothing to add to the fact that the team has a lot of work to do.”

Frederic Vasseur, Team Leader: “There is no doubt that we have a lot of work to do. It is necessary to analyze the results of the weekend, but we also saw positive aspects. Our car is fast in qualifying, although on Saturday it was not possible to put all the components together.

In the race it was more difficult for us. At a distance, the car lacks a little stability – the riders did everything they could, but this was not enough. I think it has to do with rubber and we need to take a step forward in that aspect.”
