‘Ferrari has a party at Mugello, Portimão almost round and Imola drops out’

The calendar still consists of eight recorded races, but it is expected that some will be added soon. Formula One Management and Liberty Media prefer to do this before the start of the season next week in Austria. At least Mugello seems to be assured of a Ferrari party.

The Tuscan circuit is supposed to be the scene of the big Ferrari party a week after Monza, the racing stable celebrates its thousandth participation in an F1 race in the ninth GP weekend this year anyway. An anniversary on our own soil on our own circuit is the icing on the birthday cake.

This appointment on September 13 is according to German Car engine and sport (AMuS) a certainty. “Mugello seems very likely,” the publication notes from McLaren boss Zak Brown. This concludes the third triptych (Belgium, Monza and Mugello) of the season, after which the caravan is given a week’s rest.

On September 27 there must be driven in Sochi. Where previously a double Russian GP has been suggested, that plan seems to be off the table given the predicament surrounding corona in the country, writes BOORISHNESS. Hockenheim is kept behind, Imola is said to have fallen off due to his unsafe pit exit. A side note regarding Hockenheim, the German GP cannot be held much later given the coming autumn.

There is a better climate in Portuguese Portimão, in the Algarve it is pleasant to stay well into the European autumn. The circuit originally built as an F1 test track should be the venue for the 12th race of the season on October 4.

For the North American leg of the calendar, much is still uncertain. Montreal has said from the beginning that it is still possible to race on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in October. The corona situation in the country is more or less under control, unlike the neighboring country of the United States.

Mexico City is also still suffering from the pandemic, not to mention the hard-hit Brazil. So the question is whether the F1 circus is willing to travel to this side of the world map for the Canadian GP alone.

China high priority

It is certain that China is high on the FOM priority list for one, perhaps two, races. Despite a revival of the virus in recent weeks, this Grand Prix has already been fixed according to Red Bull CEO Helmut Marko. Whether it will be one or two may also depend on the situation in Vietnam.

In Hanoi people are still hopeful to organize their first GP after all. The problem there is only the timing, in April 2021 the second will most likely be scheduled and they do not want to have it followed one after the other.

Fulfilled fact is that the season will end in the desert of Bahrain and Abu Dhabi. Bahrain is still flexible regarding one or more races on different tracks. The season finale will take place in Abu Dhabi, but when is it yet to wait.
