Fernandinho: Manchester United is Not Manchester City’s Main Rival, Liverpool is

Fernandinho evaluate Manchester United is not the main rival Manchester City in England at the moment. According to him, the main rival of The Citizens is Liverpool.

Manchester United and Manchester City have a long rivalry as city rivals. However, Man City has been superior in terms of trophies in recent seasons than MU in recent seasons. Even though more than a decade earlier, The Citizens were drowned in the shadow of the Red Devils.

Man City won five Premier League titles in the last six seasons. Meanwhile, MU has just ended its seven-year drought after winning the English League Cup this season.

Fernandinho even said MU was not Man City’s main rival in terms of chasing the title. The midfielder who now plays for Atletico Paranaense thinks Man City’s main rival in England at the moment is Man City.

“They are not the Manchester United they used to be and the best they have finished is second behind us. Listen to the fans and the press. You understand they were much better in the past. They got a lot of titles, they had a great team in 1999 and a great manager, but in the last 10 years, they have been behind us. This is the reality now,” Fernandinho said during an interview with Alan Shearer quoted by The Athletic.

“Manchester United is a local derby, but in terms of performance the biggest challenge we face is Liverpool. They are the better team and they put pressure on us in the Premier League. The games we played against them were at a very high level. This year City have the chance to win the treble, but as a City fan you always have to be humble. You always know where you’re coming from.”
