Ferencváros – Karabakh 1:3, Pilsen will play for the Champions League with Karabakh, who eliminated Ferencváros

Karabakh benefited mainly from home victories during their advances over Lech Poznaň and Zurich, but this time they also succeeded away from home in the preliminary rounds for the first time. Midfielder Zoubir scored in the seventh minute and striker Wadji added two more goals in the 54th and 78th minutes. Traoré only corrected the score in the end.

Coach Gurban Gurbanov’s men have scored at least two goals for the fifth time out of the last six competitive matches and will play against Pilsen for their second ever participation in the main stage of the Champions League. In the 2017/18 season, they won two points in a group with AS Roma, Chelsea and Atlético Madrid.

Pilsen already played with Karabakh in the qualification of the millionaire competition. In 2016, they got past him in the 3rd preliminary round after draws 0:0 and 1:1 thanks to the rule about a higher number of goals away from home, which no longer applies. In the same season, Liberec also played against Karabakh in the European League group and drew 2:2 away, won 3:0 at home. Czech clubs did not lose in any of the ten matches against Azerbaijani opponents in UEFA competitions.

Karabakh plays its home match in Baku, where it can regularly rely on the support of around 30,000 spectators in European cups. The winner of eight of the last nine seasons of the Azerbaijani top league maintained a 100% home record even with a 3:1 win over the Sabail team at the start of the league season on Saturday.
