During the afternoon of This Wednesday the death of Felipe Cossio, husband of the Minister of Transport, Gloria Hutt, was confirmed, who suffered from pancreatic cancer.
Cossio was a military engineer and married Hutt in December 1976, when the minister was 22 years old and he was 25. They had three children: Bernardita, Teresita and Felipe.
It was reported that the minister will take a few days to mourn, and that her husband’s funeral will be carried out with the assistance allowed by the current Covid-19 pandemic.
Both in the sessions of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies minutes of silence were held in memory of Felipe Cossio.
Also from the National Renewal they expressed their condolences to the minister through her Twitter account.
In conversation with Paula magazine in April 2018, The minister related that three months after getting married, they received two reports in her hands: one that confirmed her pregnancy and the other that diagnosed his testicular cancer.
“I was studying and spent the whole day running. From the San Joaquin campus, to the department, to the hospital. I had symptoms of loss and the doctor told me that I had to slow down, that I had to take care of this pregnancy. Because we were not going to be able to have more children because of the treatment that would be given to my husband, “she says.
Once Bernadette was born, the three of them went to the United States. Since Felipe was a military man, the Army paid for his cancer treatment at the United States Military Hospital. They spent a year there, spending days between the hospital and a small department, until the cancer was over. They returned to Chile, Gloria resumed her career and Felipe entered the War Academy.
“But my husband had a weakness in the respiratory system, so we spent several years between half a cold and we were with him at night with pneumonia in the hospital. It was super hard. Meanwhile, I was still studying, and I had my daughter girl, “he related on that occasion.
After this, her other two children, Teresita and Felipe, joined the family through adoption.
