Fehring: A rope team for people with dementia

In the municipality of Fehring with a total of around 7,200 inhabitants, an estimated 100 people live with dementia.
Thanks to the project “Lebendig – Leben mit demenz in der Gemeinde Fehring” they get the support they and their relatives need in the community.
“We care for one another” – that is the slogan in Fehring. Under this motto, the municipality of Fehring and five other institutions signed a declaration of support for a good life with dementia.

Sticker “We care for each other”

In order to keep people with dementia and their relatives in everyday life, all institutions, associations and companies must show openness towards people with forgetfulness. The municipality of Fehring actively supports the idea. “The citizens’ service staff were trained in communication and dementia in the autumn,” explains Mayor Johann Winkelmaier, who has now signed the first “Lebendig” declaration of support. Where the sticker “We care for one another” catches the eye, people with forgetfulness and their relatives are guaranteed to find special attention.

The “worry network”

There are five further declarations of support from the Fehring police station, the “dementia-friendly” St. Josef pharmacy, the health center, the city library and the Hohenbrugg volunteer fire department. Other partners in the “Worry Network” are welcome: Interested companies and associations are invited to sign a declaration of support that is alive and to show their support with the sticker.
