“All those men and women in our hospitals deserve that incentive bonus for the exceptional efforts they are making during the second wave,” said Federal Health Minister Frank Vandenbroucke (SP.A) in a statement. “Not because they ask for it, but because they deserve it now that they keep our country straight for the second time.”
The amount will be paid before 31 December and will not only go to nurses, but also to those who are responsible for maintenance, logistics or administration in hospitals. The extra premium, which has been worked out together with the social partners, is on top of the consumption check of 300 euros. In the course of next year, work will also be done on the structural improvement of wage and working conditions in the healthcare sector.
However, an important part of the care staff feels abandoned, especially the people who work in the residential care centers and the disabled facilities. They have not yet received any compensation. This healthcare personnel falls under the authority of the Flemish government. However, money was promised, but the negotiations have been dragging on for more than 4 months. The trade unions are calling on the Flemish government to quickly come up with money.
