Berlin: The federal cabinet launched the budget draft for the coming year at noon. After several budgets in the red, Finance Minister Lindner is aiming for a balanced budget for 2023. The violation of the debt brake anchored in the Basic Law had been justified in recent years with the Corona emergency. This time, higher tax revenues, a withdrawal from the reserve and the elimination of many pandemic expenses should ensure that much less net borrowing will have to be taken out. There is talk of new debt of 17.2 billion euros; in the current year this amount is 140 billion.
