Offenbach Offenbach needs a new corona strategy, says parliamentary group leader Dominik Schwagereit. Older people should be protected even more.

The city of Offenbach needs a new corona strategy, demands FDP parliamentary group leader Dominik Schwagereit. “We have been standing still for weeks,” he criticizes in a press release against the background of the persistently high number of infections. The city, demands Schwagereit, should follow the example of Tübingen, where the administration focuses on the particularly endangered groups of people. It is particularly about the protection of senior citizens, for whom the risk of death is 500 times higher than for those under 40.

Mandatory rapid tests

Specifically, the FDP suggests, among other things, that all employees in retirement homes have a mandatory quick test every three to seven days. Relatives and friends should also be tested before every visit to the facilities.

In addition, seniors should be able to use taxis at the price of bus tickets in order not to expose them to the risk of contacts on the bus and train. “Instead of simply sticking to the goal of a 7-day incidence of 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, it is better to focus on the utilization of the intensive care units,” demands Schwagereit. It is important that acute emergencies and severe Covid cases can always receive the necessary treatment. “Instead of daily tightening of the general measures, we should now concentrate on those who need special protection”. However, many infectologists warn that an overall high incidence makes it much more difficult to protect risk groups.

In Tübingen, too, the 7-day incidence is overall significantly lower than in Offenbach. While it was 144.8 in Tübingen at the end of the week, in Offenbach on Friday it was 285.5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

The protection of senior citizens’ facilities is already the declared top priority of the Offenbach health department. Some institutions offer or are in the process of introducing rapid tests. The FDP is involved in the Offenbach city government. jon
