Gelsenkirchen. Rien ne va plus! Nothing works with the FC Schalke 04 – at least no financial experiments.
It has already been announced several times, and now pulled through: The FC Schalke 04 continues a tough austerity course. CFO Christina Rühl-Hamers made this clear and immediately created facts.
FC Schalke 04: Chief Financial Officer nailed up the empty treasury
The first hammer: Construction stop at Berger Feld. The prestigious mega-project to rebuild the entire club area will be put on hold long before completion.
New office? Painted! The portal construction “Tor auf Schalke”? Rationalized! A building for a professional and young talent center? Abandoned (here everything about the construction freeze).
Radical paradigm shift on Schalke
And it doesn’t stop there. On top of that, Rühl-Hamers has announced a complete financial paradigm shift at Schalke. From now on, the toads will be held together – and radically.
+++ FC Schalke 04: Debt mountain is growing – does the club now draw this conclusion? +++
For years, the makers of FC Schalke 04 planned with income from regular participation in the Champions League.
“Schalke has lost the bet on the future”, stated the (ex) board members Jochen Schneider and Alexander Jobst soberly in January. “The bet on the future can no longer exist,” says CFO Christina Rühl-Hamers now clearly.

Squad planning becomes a tightrope act
A heavy burden for the squad planners around the new sports director Peter Knäbel: With practically no budget, but with the mortgage of having to pay the exorbitant salaries of the top earners in the 2nd Bundesliga, the upheaval is a tightrope act.
The only chance for big commitments: Knäbel and Co have to sell the stars of FC Schalke 04 as dearly as possible. Because the wallet from Rühl-Hamers is now nailed up.
