Father Britney Spears says: ‘# FreeBritney movement is a joke’ | NOW

Jamie Spears is fed up with all the conspiracy theories surrounding his daughter Britney Spears’ receivership. The American artist’s father, who has been under guardianship since 2008, calls the # FreeBritney movement on social media “a joke.”

“All these conspiracy thinkers know nothing. The whole world has no idea,” said Jamie Spears on Saturday in an interview with The New York Post. “It is up to the court to determine what is best for my daughter. It does not concern anyone else.”

According to father Spears, it is not just social media messages from the supporters of the # FreeBritney movement, who claim that the singer is imprisoned. “People are being stalked and receiving death threats. It’s terrible. We don’t want to have fans like this at all.”

Spears fans also claim that her father takes money from her, but according to Jamie Spears, there is absolutely no question of that. “I have to report every penny and dime to the court every year. How could I ever steal something?”

Britney Spears under guardianship since 2008

Britney Spears has lost control of her own life since 2008 after being placed under guardianship by the judge. The judge decided to do so after Spears locked her sons in a bathroom because she refused to relinquish custody of them.

Since then, Spears came under guardianship with her father Jamie, which meant making decisions about her finances and career. Spears’ father shared the trustee with lawyer Andrew Wallet.

In 2019, Jamie Spears relinquished his rights over his daughter in part because of his own mental health problems. Then Jodi Montgomery was appointed as the singer’s care manager.

Every three months, a judge must decide whether she should be placed under guardianship any longer. The current guardianship period ends on August 22. The judge will soon decide whether that period should be extended. The case was recently postponed because fans of the # FreeBritney movement had tracked down the Zoom session and refused to leave it.
