‘Fascinable’, eight stories about life and art

Eight narratives make up ‘Fascinable’, the work of Yurre Ugarte published by Alberdania publishing house and presented in San Sebastián. Each one explains very different situations, but as the author herself recognizes, all are wrapped in the same atmosphere, in an environment marked by art. “They are characters wounded by art, because that art, for them, is a way of life, since they find in fascination the way to conjure up everyday life.”

The last of the eight stories is a literary-musical legend which is not strictly fiction, “despite the risks involved. In pure fiction narratives, the characters live in very different situations: in one of them, a journalist must face the fact of telling her daughter who her father is; in another, a photographer will recall the influence that a friend from adolescence had on her, and will transport the experiences shared in the past to the present; an artist recycled into a cultural manager will take the floor to narrate his adventures, and so will a designer who has now become homeless. Or the doctoral student who is about to defend her thesis on pop art … »

Yurre Ugarte has presented his ‘Fascinable’ together with the editor of Alberdania Jorge Giménez Bech who has summarized his opinion on the essential characteristics of the author. «A fundamental feature of Yurre Ugarte’s literature is its narrative rigor. I could cite his skill in handling the characters staged, also mention the efficiency with which he solves dialogues, or his ability in portraying atmospheres, times and contexts … But I’ll stick with what I have called narrative rigor ».

During the presentation, Giménez Bech has come to resort to the term “magic.” «Yurre Ugarte does not choose especially unusual, suggestive or surprising topics or events, but she displays a powerful magic when it comes to weaving unusual, suggestive and surprising stories: she offers us a kind of magical everyday life or, if you prefer, magic of the everyday , always with extreme rigor ».

Yurre Ugarte works since 1991 in teleseries. She is the author of short films, theatrical texts, comics and works of children’s and youth literature. He has published the short story book ‘Todo es rojo’ and the graphic novel ‘Joana Maiz’.
