Manchester Maths Teacher Crowned Fantasy Premier League World Champion
Manchester, UK – May 15, 2024 – max Littleproud, a 28-year-old mathematics teacher from Manchester, has achieved global recognition in the fiercely competitive world of Fantasy Premier League (FPL). Littleproud finished fifth overall worldwide in the 2023/2024 season, culminating in victory in the prestigious BBC Sport FPL league and claiming the coveted Fantasy 606 trophy. His remarkable journey to the top underscores a unique approach to the game, prioritizing intuition over statistical analysis.
Littleproud’s dominance was sustained throughout the season. He ascended to the number one position globally in the second week of january and maintained a presence within the top 15 for an remarkable 22 weeks. He solidified his position in the top 10 for 18 weeks, and held the world’s number one spot for three weeks.
“Towards Christmas, I began to believe this could be a truly exceptional season, but I was constantly bracing for a collapse,” Littleproud confessed. The pressure of maintaining his lead reached a peak during a two-week holiday to Japan.
“I was facing 3 am deadlines while travelling, and the stress became overwhelming. I resolved to disconnect completely during my vacation, accepting that my run would end there,” he explained. Though, his passion for the game proved too strong. “I ended up watching matches on the plane! eventually, the tension became so intense that I had to delete X (formerly Twitter) from my phone in the final weeks of the season.”
What sets Littleproud apart is his intentional avoidance of mainstream FPL content. Unlike many managers who rely heavily on expert analysis and community forums,he focused on independent decision-making. “Everything I did last season was based purely on gut instinct,” he stated. “I consciously avoided external influences – I steered clear of YouTube channels and limited my presence on X for most of the season.”
this unconventional strategy extended to his analytical approach. Despite his profession as a maths teacher, Littleproud intentionally eschewed detailed statistics. “I found that statistics can lead to overthinking and paralysis by analysis,” he said.”You can get lost in the numbers.”
Luck, he acknowledges, played a role, but emphasizes the importance of positioning oneself to capitalize on lucky outcomes. “I benefited from a few bold decisions. For example, I held onto Everton’s Ashley Young for six weeks, despite widespread skepticism, and he delivered over 60 points during that period!”
The Rise of FPL: A Global Phenomenon
Fantasy Premier League, launched in 2006, has grown into a global phenomenon with over 10 million players worldwide in the 2023/2024 season.
