fans – on both sides of the video card

In the second half of this year, NVIDIA plans to introduce a new generation of consumer graphics cards built on Ampere GPUs. And now the first photo has appeared on the Web, which allegedly shows the future video cards GeForce RTX 3080.

It is reported that the photo shows prototypes or engineering samples that demonstrate one of the design options for the reference graphics card GeForce RTX 3080 from NVIDIA itself. And this design is very unusual, as it involves the presence of two fans located on both sides of the video card.

The GeForce RTX 3080 shown has an irregularly shaped PCB with a V-shaped end, this can be seen from the back of the board. This design allowed NVIDIA to place a fan on the back of the video card without increasing its thickness. This is reminiscent of the GeForce GTX 295 graphics card, which also had a hole to accommodate the fan in the circuit board.

The second fan is located in the usual place above the circuit board. Both of them blow a rather massive radiator. Note that the elements of the blue radiator on one of the samples are actually silver, just glued with a blue protective film. It is impossible to judge the effectiveness of such a cooling system, but it looks at least very interesting.

The power connectors are not visible in the usual places, which may mean that they are moved to the end, as on the Quadro series video cards. Also next to the mounting plate, you can see something similar to the new version of the NVLink connector.

At the moment, it is not known exactly when exactly the company NVIDIA will introduce a new generation of video cards. But taking into account the fact that a design leak has already occurred, if not the final version, then at least a fairly well-developed prototype, the wait is not very long.
