Family vaccinates their baby to protect him from COVID-19 and travel to the Philippines – KION546

SALINAS, Calif. (KMUV-TV) After the announcement so that children as young as 6 months of age and older could now receive the COVID-19 vaccine, a Salinas family took their little one to be vaccinated, after experiencing difficult times due to the coronavirus.

Baby Dennis Alonzo is 19 months old and has already received his first dose of the coronavirus vaccine. Michelle Salvador, mother of little Dennis, spoke with Telemundo 23, while she held her baby in her arms and mentioned that having her entire family vaccinated is a great relief.

“It is very important for us because we want to make sure that he is also protected. We are all vaccinated: my husband, myself and Luna. We are all vaccinated and he had nothing. It is always a little scary,” he said.

Before the pandemic, Michelle Salvador and her family traveled to the Philippines every year, but for two years, her travels were put on hold.

“We want to make sure that it will be okay if we travel,” explains Salvador.

His eldest daughter – Luna – contracted COVID-19 and it was one of the most stressful moments for the family.

“She has always been very strong and has always been on her feet, and when she got sick and I took her to the doctor, I looked back and said ‘oh, this is not good’ because I was depressed,” said the mother of Luna and Dennis. .

This week, the Salinas Valley Medical Center received 600 doses of the Pfizer vaccine, after the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the FDA gave the go-ahead for children in 6 months to 5 years may already be eligible for the vaccine.

Doctors like Dr. Klick continue to insist that getting vaccinated is the best way to protect yourself.

“Especially as we enter the fall and winter months, a lot of the forecasts from health experts are warning that we may start to see an increase again,” Klick said.

Data from the state website shows that 48 people have been hospitalized from the coronavirus in Monterey County in the last week, with 2 people in intensive care and while people are getting vaccinated, doctors say now is not the time to trust

Dr. Klick says that while she hasn’t seen severe cases of COVID in children as well as adults, minors can still develop long-lasting symptoms.

Now fully vaccinated, the family hopes to travel to the Philippines sometime this year or early next.
