Family members of temporary workers in Canada will now be able to apply for a work permit to live legally in the country. This new measure began to apply from January 30, 2023, so some relatives can already be chosen to apply.
Under the new policy, eligibility for a work permit is extended to those who meet the following criteria:
- You are the spouse, partner or dependent child of the holder of a work permit who:
- Work at a job in any category of Training, Education, Experience and Responsibilities
- You are the primary applicant and have an open work permit (example: post-graduation work permit holders at all skill levels).
- You are the spouse, partner, or dependent child of an economic class permanent resident applicant who holds a work permit.
Initially it was only possible for spouses of workers to apply for this work permit. But this measure seeks to improve the quality of life of workers by having their family with them in the country. As well as reduce stress levels and improve your financial stability.
The measure will run for two years and includes children over the age of 16 of the main applicants of all skill levels and professions. This includes healthcare, retail and hospitality workers.
