Fall Guys: Mediatonic looks back on the launch – News

With more than 2 million copies sold on Steam and millions of potential players on PlayStation 4 (thanks to PS Plus), Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout had a more than eventful launch. Far from imagining such a success, the developers of Mediatonic were a little overwhelmed by the massive influx of users.

The result, you know it, the servers were unavailable for many hours. A difficult launch to which the development team returned in an interview with the VICE website. Ironically dubbed “How does it feel to launch a game so popular that no one can play it”, this one lets us know more about the app’s release. Joe Walsh, lead game designer, notably expects a few other server issues in the coming weeks.

Yeah, it’s very scary to see these servers overloaded because you think the hype will never come back. Particularly because so many gamers are playing Fall Guys for free through PS Plus, one can easily imagine them turning off the console or choosing to play something else. There are so many great games coming out all the time that it’s terrifying to imagine that you might have missed your chance. Fortunately, the players were very understanding and stayed around while our server team scaled up our infrastructure.

It was a great relief to have managed to temper this initial tornado, but things seem to continue to pick up steam. I expect we will have a few more moments like this in the next few weeks, but our team is ready!
