FALL CAMP REPORT 4: The Grind Is Real

NORMAL,Ill. – Illinois State Redbird football showcased offensive and defensive strengths during a focused practice session on Thursday, highlighted by touchdown passes from quarterbacks Tommy Pellant and Jake Anderson. Teh team is preparing for its first intrasquad scrimmage this Saturday.

Pellant demonstrated accuracy connecting with receivers downfield, culminating in a 35-yard touchdown pass to Rylan Crawford. He also completed passes to running back Seth Glatz twice, utilizing him as a receiving threat, and connected with tight ends Nick True and Brady Probst for positive yardage. Anderson, a preseason All-American, later led a drive capped by a four-yard touchdown run.

The practice included a red zone segment where the first-team defense initially held strong, forcing a field goal attempt after Tye Niekamp broke up a third-down pass. the second-team offense managed a first down on a fourth-and-one conversion with a run by Glatz,but Ben Harman responded with a tackle for loss,halting the drive. Later,Anderson faced two tackles for loss before Martine broke through for a fourth-down conversion,ultimately scoring a touchdown. The second-team offense also reached the end zone, despite starting from a disadvantage due to a tackle for loss by Travis Jones. Pellant then contributed with a seven-yard run and a 12-yard touchdown pass to Gavin Camp.

Illinois State University’s fall training camp is being held at Hancock Stadium on the ISU campus. The redbirds are entering their 2025 season under Head Coach Brock Spack, who is beginning his 17th year leading the program. The team finished the 2024 season with a 6-5 overall record and a 4-4 mark in the Missouri Valley Football Conference.
