Member of Commission I of the Gerindra Faction, Fadli Zon, criticized the government’s decision and the House of Representatives Committee of the Republic of Indonesia which agreed that the new capital city would be named Nusantara. Fadli Zon instead suggested that the name of the new capital city follow the name of the head of state, namely Jokowi.
The proposal was submitted by Fadli Zon via his Twitter account @fadlizon on Tuesday (18/1/2022). The proposal coincided with today’s DPR RI together with the government to ratify the National Capital City Bill (IKN) into the IKN Law at a plenary meeting.
“Nusantara is not suitable as the name of the new capital city,” said Fadli Zon as seen detik.com on his Twitter account @fadlizon.
Fadli Zon suggested that the name of the capital city be taken from the name of the president such as the Capital of Kazakhstan. He proposed that IKN be named Jokowi.
“The archipelago has its own meaning as an Indonesian territory, not to mention there is ‘Insight of the Archipelago’. My suggestion is to name the capital city directly ‘Jokowi’. It is the same as the capital city of Kazakhstan Nursultan (from the name of President Nursultan Nazarbayev),” he said.
For information, the name Nusantara was conveyed by the Head of Bappenas, Suharso Monoarfa. He said the name had been approved by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
