Facebook Denied 2.2 Million Ads Obstructing US Elections | NOW

Facebook has turned down at least 2.2 million ads because they “tried to obstruct voting” in the United States. That says Facebook CEO Nick Clegg in an interview with the French newspaper Sunday Newspaper.

In addition, the company deleted 120,000 posts on Instagram and Facebook, and warned 150 million times about fake news. In the interview, Clegg says he wants to avoid “the trauma of 2016”, when disinformation campaigns from Russia, among others, had free rein on the platform.

Facebook allegedly invested “billions of dollars” to protect the integrity of elections. The company now employs 35,000 employees to achieve this.

Facebook has been taking tougher action against supporters of the QAnon conspiracy theory since last week. The company also took a post from US President Donald Trump offline at the beginning of this month, because it would spread disinformation about the corona virus.

According to The Wall Street Journal Facebook still seizes barely in when posts break the rules. Of the 150 posts they found, only 32 were removed, the newspaper said.
