Facebook bug blocks operation of several popular apps

A huge Facebook bug caused many iOS apps to crash this Friday that rely on its effectiveness.

The applications concerned include Spotify, Pinterest, Tinder or Waze even going to touch and competing social network services like Twitter.

“A code change caused some iOS apps (running on Apple’s operating system) using the Facebook software development kit to crash”, a company spokesman told AFP.

“We quickly identified the problem and resolved it. We apologize for any problems caused ”, he added.

After having lasted for many hours, the problem was resolved during the day. The bug in question seems to be quite similar to that of May, which crashed all applications that rely on Facebook for connections, analyzes and advertising functions at launch.

The main problem seems to be “Improper handling of unexpected invalid data” caused by Facebook servers transmitting data in the wrong format to customers, because client applications do not know how to handle badly formatted data.
