Facebook and Spotify team up to launch Project Boombox

In recent weeks, and in particular the creation of Live Audio Rooms, Facebook has been trying to establish itself in the highly coveted audio conferencing sector, currently dominated by Clubhouse. If Mark Zuckerberg’s company wants to encourage its users to create and distribute their own content, it also plans to rely on Spotify, the market leader. Thus, the two platforms have just confirmed the latent rumors, by formalizing the Project Boombox, which will soon allow users to enjoy Spotify content – such as music, but also podcasts, which have been particularly popular in recent months, directly from the Facebook interface.

Officialized by Mark Zuckerberg in a Discord interview with the newsletter’s Casey Newton Platformers, this new feature should make life easier for Facebook users, who will now be able to launch their music or their favorite audio content directly from the social network, but also more easily share their creations.

A promising novelty for Facebook, which could especially deal a blow to the Apple brand. While Apple Music recently prided itself on better remunerating its artists, the native integration of Spotify into the Facebook application could definitely establish the status of leader of the music streaming platform. In addition, recalls the Slashgear site, this coalition comes at a time when Apple is already leading a united front against Facebook (concerning the advertising monitoring of iOS 14.5), but also against Spotify, which accuses Apple of valuing Apple Music too much on its App. Store. A little more patience, the Boombox project, as well as several new social features promised by Facebook should be deployed within a week.
