Facebook conducted a survey among its users that concluded that the application is harmful to one in eight people active on the platform. The findings made by the team in charge of carrying out the survey indicated that Meta has a negative impact on their sleep rhythm, in the workplace and on interpersonal relationships.
This was reported by the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal in an article made from documents leaked to the press.

The risks pointed out by the survey carried out by Facebook refer mainly to the development of an addiction to the platform. The files proved that, of all the social networks analyzed, the one founded by Mark Zuckerberg was the one that generated the most harmful attachment in Internet users.
As a consequence, a team from the company itself specialized in the well-being of users issued a list of recommendations focused on reducing cases of Internet addiction. Of the total, only some were implemented, as could be corroborated via the company’s internal documents.
Among the measures that could be established is that of reducing the frequency of notifications, a system designed precisely to encourage regular use of Facebook. In addition, there is also the creation of voluntary tools that encourage users to take breaks for specific intervals of time.

However, according to the Wall Street Journal, the group that made the aforementioned suggestions was eliminated in 2019. Facebook responded to the article in this newspaper through a statement in which it assured that it has already developed tools to “Help people manage when and how” users use their services. He also guaranteed that the company has a team specialized in studying this problem.
