After Remco Evenepoel, Fabio Jakobsen also made himself heard for the first time after his heavy fall in the Tour of Poland. The Dutch champion has let us know in an open letter how he is doing.

“We are now two weeks after my crash in Poland. The doctors and nurses on the arrival strip in Katowice saved my life: I am eternally grateful to them for that. I spent a week in intensive care at St. Barbara hospital in Sosnowiec. There they immediately operated on me for five hours and gave me the chance to survive. ”
“It was a difficult, dark period for me in the intensive care unit. I was afraid I wouldn’t survive. But with the help of the Tour de Pole organization and my team Deceuninck – Quick-Step, my family was close to me. That gave me a lot of courage. ”
“On Wednesday I was transferred to the hospital in Leiden, where I received further treatment. Step by step I can independently draw up my plan again. At the moment I am at home, where the wounds on my face and my injuries can heal. I still have to rest a lot in the coming months. I will also undergo several surgeries to repair the wounds on my face. ”
“I want to let everyone know that I am grateful that I am still alive. All messages and all words of support gave me tremendous strength. Step by step I am looking ahead and I will fight to recover. ”
“I would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Rafael, my surgeon in Poland. Doctor Vanmol, who was present as a team doctor. Patrick Lefevere, who brought my family to me. And Agata Lang and family, who took care of my family together with the Tour of Poland. ”
