F1 GP Turkey, Bottas triumphs. Verstappen 2nd back in the lead. Leclerc is 4th, Hamilton only 5th

Race in the wet in Istanbul with the Finn from Mercedes who manages the lead in front of the Dutchman. Perez also on the podium. The Monegasque and the Englishman attempted a non-stop race

The crazy Turkish GP staged in Istanbul is by Valtteri Bottas. The Finn of Mercedes preceded the Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez at the finish. Fourth and fifth place for Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari and Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes, who attempted to go all the way to the finish with the intermediate tire, before giving in and making their stop in the final laps. Verstappen is thus back at the top of the championship, + 6 on Hamilton.

Sorry Verstappen

Mercedes needed a big Bottas to limit the damage of changing the power unit on Hamilton’s car. And Valtteri did not betray. On Saturday he managed to take the position on Verstappen in qualifying, today he always kept behind the Dutchman of Red Bull, who never managed to find the pace to get close and fight for the victory. But Verstappen can smile anyway because Hamilton’s comeback from 11th place stopped at fifth position, even behind Perez and the Ferrari of a fighter Charles Leclerc. For Max there are therefore 8 points earned on the direct rival and top of the newly found ranking. The race was crazy because the Istanbul Park track, even without rain, remained wet for practically all 58 laps, never allowing the walls to call the pilots to the pits to mount the slicks. The only one who tried was Vettel on lap 38, only to find he was on track on soap.

Charles and Lewis hoped for it

Emotions certainly gave her Leclerc and Hamilton, who tried to go as long as possible, in search of the impossible that seemed possible. But while Verstappen, Bottas and Perez, stopping between the 37th and 38th lap made the right choice, the Monegasque and the English went ahead. Their attempt stopped in the middle, with the stop with 7 and 8 laps to go which sentenced them down from the podium. Both of them asked the walls what to do, Hamilton also said he would come back just to put on the slicks. But in the end Lewis also had to give up and reassembled the intermediates.

Ferrari, important points

At least Ferrari can smile because the new power unit turned out to be a nice step forward, as demonstrated by the 8th place of Carlos Sainz, author of a beautiful comeback from the back row, with some breathtaking overtaking like those on Russell and Vettel. Two reds in points with McLaren relegated to 7th place with Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo only 13th mean points earned against Woking for the fight for third place in the constructors. Quote for Esteban Ocon, who with the Alpine was the only one to complete the GP non-stop (under the photo of his practically exhausted tires) and to finish 10th, in the points, right in front of the two Alfa Romeos of Antonio Giovinazzi and Kimi Raikkonen. Next race in Austin in two weeks.
