Explosions Near Iran Nuclear Facilities Heard Up To 20 Km

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

An air defense test causes a large explosion near a nuclear facility Iran on Saturday (4/12). The explosion was heard in the town of Badroud, which is 20 kilometers away.

“The residents of Badroud heard the sound and saw a light indicating an object had just exploded in the sky above the city,” the witness told Iran’s official news agency, IRNA, as reported AFP.

The general of the Iranian army, Amir Tarikhani, said on television that there was nothing to worry about this incident.

“An hour ago, one of the missiles from our system in the region was tested in response to the readiness status on the ground, and there is nothing to be afraid of,” said Tarikhani.

Iran’s Natanz uranium enrichment facility is almost entirely underground, protected by concrete-covered soil. Iran under a 2015 deal with major powers had agreed to strict limits on the uranium enriched at the facility and the extent to which it could be enriched.

But since US President Donald Trump abandoned the deal in 2018, Iran has been subject to sweeping sanctions. Iran then increased its uranium enrichment activities.

Israel has repeatedly said it is ready to use all means, including by force, to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapons capability.

“In order to evaluate the system base in the region, exercises like this one are carried out in a completely safe environment and in full coordination with a unified defense network,” a military spokesman said.
