An original Jeannois, Michel Simard, has just published a book which relates the history of hockey in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region.

The book relates different eras, from 1895 to the 1970s, through different well-illustrated sections.

We find a passage on the Wolves of La Tuque in the work of more than 300 pages. Towards the end of the 1960s, the Wolves joined the Saguenay-Lac Saint-Jean League. The name of Vic Croteau, former instructor is inscribed there as is that of Jean Saint-Pierre, who died on the ice.

You should know that the Wolves had a certain notoriety by racking up a good number of victories. In April 1969 the Wolves won the Canadian senior hockey championship against the Lloydminster Border Kings.

The book is very documented. The research work on texts and photos began in 2019.

We discover all the elements that contributed to the growth of this sport in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region. The launch took place in mid-August at the Lac-Saint-Jean Golf Club. On the cover page, we see photos of Samuel Girard, Mario Tremblay, Jean-Claude Tremblay, Georges Vézina and Michel Goulet.

We obtain the book from Michel Simard: [email protected]
