Experts from the university clinic provide information on the subject of strokes

On Tuesday, March 16, three experts from the Würzburg University Hospital will answer questions on the subject of strokes in an online event that is understandable to laymen. The university hospital reports this in a press release. The free event is a joint project with the Main-Post media group.

Every year in Germany alone, around 270,000 people suffer a stroke, according to the university hospital. The disease is one of the most common causes of death worldwide, and it is also the most common cause of disability in adulthood. Against this background, laypeople rightly have many questions: How do diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, cardiac insufficiency and cardiac arrhythmias, but also the individual lifestyle affect the risk of stroke? When is the treatment of narrowed neck vessels useful? How do I recognize symptoms of a stroke? And how are stroke patients cared for in the Mainfranken region?

Prevention and therapy

Competent answers to these and other questions will be given at an online event on Tuesday, March 16, three experts from the University Hospital Würzburg (UKW): Univ.-Prof. Dr. Karl Georg Häusler (Managing Senior Physician of the Neurological Clinic and Polyclinic), Dr. Thorsten Odorfer (senior physician at the neurological clinic and polyclinic and coordinator of the telemedicine network Transit-Stroke) and Univ.-Prof. Dr. Stefan Frantz (Director of the Medical Clinic and Polyclinic I of the UKW). After short presentations on the prevention and therapy of stroke, the experts will also respond to questions submitted in advance by the participants as part of the registration process.

The university hospital is organizing the event together with the Main-Post media group. It starts at 6 p.m. using the “Skype for Business” platform. An internet connection and a smartphone, tablet, laptop or PC are required to participate.
