An expert seminar on the film “The Big Thing” was held at the China Film Association a few days ago. The participating experts focused on the narrative and characters of the film and expressed their opinions on the creation of related themes.

The movie “Big Things” was created and filmed based on the deeds of Fan Shufeng, a grassroots community policeman in Zhengzhou City. It is a warm film that reflects the work and life of party members and cadres in grassroots communities. The seminar on the day was hosted by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles Film Art Center and Zhengzhou Film and Television Artists Association.

Fan Shufeng was an ordinary community policeman in Baimiao Community, Jinshui District, Zhengzhou City. He worked in the front line of the community all year round. He was only 39 years old and died at his job due to overwork. After Fan Shufeng died, his family complied with his will and donated his organs free of charge, which extended the lives of five patients. Fan Shufeng kept the difficulties of the people in mind and did practical things for them, showing the great feelings of an ordinary grassroots policeman in every word and deed. He is the epitome of the public security police across the country, and he has practiced the original intention and mission of a Communist Party member with practical actions. “Big Things” takes his deeds as the creative prototype, and uses the country’s “Old Community Transformation Project” to improve the living environment of urban residents as the starting point, telling a touching story about this mortal hero.

The film is jointly produced by seven companies including Henan Vision Culture Media Co., Ltd., Hubei Jianhong Film and Television Culture Media Co., Ltd., and Henan Huanyu Vision Film and Television Production Company. It is directed by young director Wu Shuang and starred by Shao Feng. Chief producer Guo Yongtao introduced that the preparation of the film took three years and experienced many difficulties in the middle. This is the most memorable one among the more than 20 films he has participated in the creation of for more than ten years. He said that he hoped that “Big Things” would allow ordinary audiences to feel the touching deeds of grassroots party members and cadres in ordinary jobs, and realize the spirit of “there are no heroes who fall from the sky, only mortals who stand up”.

At the expert seminar held that day, Rao Shuguang, president of the China Film Critics Society, said that in recent years, the number of films of advanced figures has increased, and a film genre with Chinese characteristics has also been formed. Where is the focus of the creation of such themes? How to innovate, how to break through, how to express? How to form a greater commonality with young audiences? He believes that the creation of the protagonist’s image in “A Big Thing” has individuality and is not overstated. The creator portrays him as an ordinary person, and also writes about his helplessness and predicament, as well as his guilt towards his daughter and wife. , more endowed the protagonist with some life states of ordinary people and grassroots policemen. Zhang Wei, executive vice president of the China Film Critics Society, believes that “A Big Thing” has achieved a little bit of character creation. The protagonist of the film is kind and lovely, and there are different aspects in it. The first is kindness in simplicity; the second is meticulousness in complexity; the third is cleverness in honesty; have humor. “In the film, there are specific plot details for each side, forming a very three-dimensional character image.” Zhang Wei said.
