Experts advise against lowering Tenerife to alert level 1 on the eve of Carnival | Radio Club Tenerife

The expert in microbiology and member of the scientific advisory committee of the Government of the Canary Islands, Antonio Sierra, advises against easing the restrictions on the island of Tenerife on the eve of Carnival.

In recent days, calls for illegal parties and rallies to mark the celebration have proliferated. For this reason, Sierra “would wait for these days to pass before going down from alert level 2 to 1.”

However, the professor has recognized that the decision is in the hands of the Canarian Executive, it will be this Thursday in the Governing Council when it is adopted, while the data endorse an epidemiological improvement. In this sense, the island has registered 51 new cases of Covid-19 in recent days and the cumulative incidence in 14 days stands at 66.13 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, half the regional average.

In Tenerife there are 2,250 active cases, 13,289 people have already overcome the disease and 335 have died since the start of the pandemic. Currently there are 143 patients hospitalized on the ward, 16 in the ICU.
