The explanations on the declaration issued on Thursday by the WHO following the expansion to several countries of cases of the coronavirus (2019-nCoV) detected last December in Wuhan, China, were given to Listín Diario by the director of Communicable and Determinant Diseases Environmental of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) in Washington, Dr. Marcos Espinal.

The declaration means that after evaluating all the new information that has arrived, it allows the committee of experts to recommend to the WHO Director General to declare a Public Health Emergency of International Importance (ESPII) what it means within the International Health Regulations This is an extraordinary event: That it constitutes a public health risk for the other States through international dissemination and that requires a coordinated international response.
